Code of Ethics Policy for Research
PURPOSE
Truthfulness is corner stone of all human activities. Researchers believe in other researchers work. Society believes the results from research and incorporates them for day-today activities. For this trust to sustain, researchers need to accept and adhere to the values associated with ethical research conduct. The purpose of this policy is to create awareness and come up with a set of clear guidelines to maintain responsible conduct in research. Tecnia R&ID promotes research that benefits to the larger section of society and so the Faculty Members and Students of the Institute are committed to research focused on people, organizations and industry. To honour the trust placed in researchers by research participants, funding organisations and society, the researchers should at all times act correctly and in ways that respect the rights and dignity of the participants, organisations and industry. In this regard all faculty members, researchers and students undertaking research are bound by code of research ethics.OBJECTIVES
Tecnia R&DI lays down Code of Ethics Policy for Research:
- To provide the ethical framework within which the ethical review process will operate across campus.
- To promote exemplary ethical standards in research and scholarship
SCOPE AND LIMITS
This policy applies to all persons participating and conducting research and innovation activities under the auspices of the Institute.
POLICY STATEMENTS
- Experiments and Data:
- Faculty involved in research shall ensure that proper methods are followed for experiments, computations, and theoretical developments, and that data are properly recorded and saved for future reference
- Primary and secondary data such as original pictures, instrument data readouts, laboratory notebooks, and computer folders shall be carefully recorded and saved.
- There shall be minimal digital manipulation of images/photos; the original version should be saved for later scrutiny, if required, and the changes made should be clearly described.
- Robust reproducibility and statistical analysis of experiments and simulations shall be ensured.
- Lab notebooks shall be well maintained in bound notebooks with printed page numbers to enable checking later during publications or patent. Date shall be indicated on each page.
- Publication and Openness:
- The research results shall be published as per the guidelines given Research and Innovation Development Policy.
- Authorship and Credit:
- Research is collaborative effort than individual effort. All contributors to research shall be listed as authors.
- Honorary contributors need not be included in author listing.
- All contributing researchers shall take credit in proportion to their contribution notwithstanding their cadre
- All contributing authors shall be accountable for any mistakes.
- Conflict of Interest:
- To promote transparency and enhance credibility, faculty involved in research shall disclose potential conflicts of interests in writing to Chair R&ID, so that a considered decision can be made on a case-by-case basis
- Plagiarism Check:
- Faculty should certify that their work is original and have checked their document for plagiarism.
- Violation of Ethical Standards:
- Violation of ethics shall be reported to R&ID Committee which will take appropriate action on offending faculty.
- Review and Feedback:
- R&ID Committee will review the proposed modifications if any and incorporate them into the policy after thorough discussion among members and duly approved by Chair.
